Finally broke...home safe.

Post by SierraFox »

Well after a good day at Danville with no relevant signs of doom coming it was a good time. Fortunatly about 15 miles out of Danville a horrible noise came from the engine bay. Felt like the clutch had pretty much blown out. When I would go to climb a hill the speed began to drop but the rpm would gradually rise some as I applied the throttle. So I figured it was the clutch slipping. So maybe a peice of pressure plate or clutch broke off & got jammed into something because the clutch would act very odd when engaging and disengaging.

Then the worst arose when the noise got rediculously loud, then the power dropped and suddenly it felt like 3 cylinders. So I think I broke a valve.

After calling Nationwide since I have road side service and towing they said thier isnt anything they could do. I would have to call a tow myself. So Im more than likely going to drop Nationwide for someone better. I called 3 different tow services only to find out they wouldnt do a long haul service.

So I crossed my fingers hoping a local tow would come out. I called Coltrane and sure enough Jason who works there who was with his family at the time told me he would come out and get me as soon as he got to the office. Less than 2 hours just about and the car was the flatbed. They also gave a unbelievable deal on the rate.

Lukily my wife drove her car out to the event. But we are all home safe.

BTW I just wanted to say thanks to Tara for turning around and stopping to check in on us. After about 5-6 people from the autocross passed us, she stopped. Thanks again Tara!

Also to Brandon Ross for hanging out the entire time and then cruising all the way back to our exit on I-81.

Glad to hear you made it home safely. I didn't see a black Honda on my way back to 29N, but you may have been heading in a different direction.

Hope it's a clutch and not a damaged engine.

You mean the Cayman couldn't get around a Fiat?

It is a bit tough to pass on that road.

We were on 58 W. I saw the black 350Z, 2 Porches and I cant remember what else off hand.

After I got the confirmation that the tow was coming. Brandon and I pulled out the chairs and kicked back ont eh side of the road and just bs'd. Onlt thing we needed then was some "beverages".

Had a lot of peiople waving and honking

Ya me too. If it is the valve and nothing is salvagable I do have another block. I have a B18A1 which I will build a LS/VTEC out of.

No attempt to pass Robert. He was faster at the event so I knew my place!

I usually drive too fast on the way back (unlike at the A/X) so thought following was appropriate to keep me more legal.

I did not see the breakdown either. Or Tara, for that matter, after she passed us.

I turned off the 58 bypass to stop at my apartment to grab somethings before I left Danville, so I got off shortly after I passed you. I was kinda surprised I didn't run into you all again. I had the cruise set at 7-8 over - nothing crazy.
