BANNER ELK, NC – The Central Carolinas Region (CCR) of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is again teaming with The Lodges at Eagles Nest in Banner Elk, NC. “We expect cool nights, warm days and hot cars in record numbers challenging the hill at Eagles Nest.” said Tony Wentworth, this year’s event chair. “This is arguably the best pavement in the country for a hill climb event. We’re proud to once again be partnered with John Turchin and his great organization at Eagles Nest.”

The Inaugural event in 2007 drew forty two entrants from across the Southeast. George Bowland of Mill Spring, NC holds the hill record of 81.182 seconds in his BBR Shark, a special built for hill climbs. The hill is 1.5 miles and has an elevation change of over 1,500 feet. The course also features the thrilling Stone Wall Turn, a right hander after a downhill straight that has the stone wall just inches from the ideal driving line.

Wentworth added, “Hill climbs on paved roads have over 100 years of history in the United States and over a half century of that history happened in North Carolina. It’s a unique event because spectators can intimately view the race from the hillside. They’ll not only see some of the best hill climbers in the country but be in one of the most scenic parts of the world. Hill climbs have traditionally been our largest public events.” Cars that will be racing will range from every day sports cars and sedans to formula cars and specials. Entrants will include septuagenarian Mort Stern* of Charlotte driving his Formula Ford.

This is the third jewel in the 2008 Continental Tire Triple Crown Series and the fifth event on the SCCA Southeastern Division Time Trials Series sponsored by Cool Shirt.

The event will also feature live music, specialty foods and an array of outdoor activities. Gates open to the public at 8:00AM Saturday and Sunday. Racing will begin at 9:00AM on Saturday and 8:30 on Sunday.
