I've had fun driving Fiats (X-1/9s) in the 80's, and now have a Miata, so maybe some good MIGHT come out of this.

This sounds like a waste of Mazda's time to me. Mazda is losing money but it's probably not solely due to declining MX5 sales so what they reallly need help with is their bread and butter passenger car and SUV sales.
