Any headway made when it comes to novice drivers?

Post by Devilsword »

Recently i was druming up intrest at work to bring in a few novice drivers to the first verona event when i recalled discussion about new ways to deal with novices. I know we discussed a means of taging the cars to make it obvious to other drivers, possibility of having drivers being signed off on after a few ride alongs, ect. So did we decide to go through with any of this or more?

All car classes have the NOVICE class available, simply add a "N" to the class on the car and make sure to notify the timing and scoring if you register under a different class and then decide to run Novice.
We have a Novice Coordinator, Erik Strock, he will help with all the necessary questions at the event. The biggest item is that a Novice CANNOT have a passenger until the Novice Coordinator signs off that the driver has met all the safety criteria and understanding. We have loaner helmets available (requires a head sock that are available at the event for $2). We do Novice walkthrough of the course at each event, so bring as many as you can and enjoy the event. Any one of the BRR members or board officers will be glad to help make sure everything will be enjoyable and go as smooth as possible.

Any novice driver, whether or not they are in the novice class, will need to have a BRR officer (or someone approved by an officer) to ride with them until we are satisfied with their ability to safely participate in the Autocross. If one of the officers has confidence in the skills of a particular driver, that officer can go ahead and approve them to participate without a BRR officer in the car.

In the CCR region we have a novice coordinator, this person seeks out the novices in each heat and assigns them seasoned veterans to help guide them through the course.

That sounds like what we plan to do, but it will take some work. Keep your fingers crossed!

Buckie - let me know if you would like me to help Heath and Ryan while you are doing said novice instruction. I am interested in helping with Tech in the future anyway.

We can talk tomorrow morning. I will be there early.
