99 Miata- wrecked- great LOCOST donor car

My 99 Miata needs a new home.
I wrecked the car about a year and a half ago. The car still runs great, and their is no damage to any of the Drivetrain. The suspension is mostly in good shape, and also the Interior is still 9.5 out if 10 in condition.

Body is Emerald Green, but is ruined. I hit a parked car fairly hard (30mph of so) but the car still has a clean Title and "could" possibly be straightened out to be raced. (I had liability car insurance)

Personally, I was going to build a LOCOST roadster, since literally all that you would need other than my Miata would be a fuel tank, brake and fuel lines, a few cheap other parts, and a LOCOST Frame (which I have a very detailed CAD diagram printed out (about 80 pages) if you want to build it yourself, or so someone could easily build it for you. No guesswork here.
Also, there are a few companies that sell ready to go Locost frames for around $3000, plus another $1000 or so for all the bodywork.

This is the best kit in the US as of now. They are easy to contact and make a very high quaility product.
http://www.coveland.com/motorsports/index.cfm?ID=80
Coveland's frame is 2700, or $7900 for EVERYTHING (minus a donor car) to make a ROAD LEGAL complete locost.

Also, this would be a perfect car if someone had another miata (NA or NB, both swap easily)

Car has around 60k miles. VERY well maintained.
Black Cloth interior (seats, and many other parts were removed less than one month after wreck, and stored in my basement)
no options except for A/C and a factory installed fuel catch can, which holds a few oz. of fuel up front incase you are in a hard corner, and low on fuel, it would not cut out.
New (1k miles or less) midpipe and cat.
factory 14" wheels (painted gunmetal) with nearly dead Azenis 215's
Leather boot cover.
NO HARDTOP.(most people ask that first)

The car honestly looks bad now.(only recently has the bodywork been beaten up, long story)
Body panels in good shape:
Fuel door, trunk, mirrors, right front Fender... mirrors need paint...
others are beat.

Car runs (no radiator,so only short starts) and has been started once a week since wrecked)
Oil has been Mobil1 from the time I bought it (I also have another MAZDA oil filter here)

Here is a Pic...BEFORE the recent body damage. (car rolled through a wood fence, long story. no damage to anything but paint/body and windshield cracked)
http://filebox.vt.edu/users/claytonb/Ca ... ilding.JPG

i can get some more pictures of it, but honestly, the body is VERY rough, as I said.

Motor looks nearly showroom clean, as did the entire car while I drove it.

BTW, it has been stored in a building untill last week, now next to my house with a tarp over it.

Price? Im not really sure what to ask for a wrecked car. For reference, on Miata.net the motors(normally more mileage than mine) go for atleast 900, no tranny, computer, etc.

99's seem to sell (not wrecked, more mileage) for between 7500-10,000.

Also, if anyone wants to have a turbo/supercharger swap, the 99-00 motors are the best. stronger motor and no VVT. the Mazdaspeed MX-5 uses the motor from a 99-00, not a 01-04.

Anyone interested, shoot me a PM. I'm still trying to gauge what the car is worth. Make me an offer I cant refuse! I would also still like to sell it as a complete car, not part out. If I start a part out, theirs gonna be a HUGE temptation to get a loan out and build it myself!

Hey Brock! Visions of CSP/track car dancing in my head. Frame straight? Tell me more about the suspension, etc. crash damage. Obviously needs a radiator. Interior and top not of much concern. How about body panel attachment points? I would repaint anyway, so fence damage is probably not a problem. More detailed info please.

ill try to get some better pics, this is what I have right now.
https://filebox.vt.edu/users/claytonb/M ... 0_1213.jpg

A few people have said they think it should be able to be fixed and raced.
I havent ever dealt with that, so I just cant honestly answer if it is/can be straight. Looks like the damage is all right before the strut mount, so it should be ok I would think.
Feel free to ask for a different angle pic, or to come check it out!

ok, I went down and looked at the car again. (my camera has no batteries right now.. ill buy some tomm.)

the car will need a Psgr side door (took the brunt of the fence) and obviously a top.

Honestly, the other door, and rears dont look THAT bad. much better than I had thought.

The front mount on the drivers side for the sway bar is bent badly. everything behind the drivers side strut seems to be OK. I would say if you were to race it, you would ATLEAST want to have someone check out the frame to make sure it isn't a waste of your time to work on.

I personally think that if you wanted to, It could be fixed enough to race. But I have no real experience with frames, so thats just an opinion.

also, I would still like to push the fact that you could swap this motor into another Miata (with FULL interior, etc...) or build a locost.

I was thinking about the price to ask, and after looking at what the parts would go for if I were to part it, I think somewhere around $3000 or less.

Considering that Rolling Chassis NB's have sold for more than that, even on eBay, and this is a basically COMPLETE car. Please dont hesitate to offer something else, or tell me Im way off what you were thinking, because like I said, that is just a rough guess at what its worth. Its VERY rare to find one of these in this condition, so I have nothing to base the value off of, other than the parts.

Seriously, dont be scared to make me an offer though. I am in NO WAY stuck on that price!

Brock,
To be honest with you, there's very little chance that you will get $3k for your car in its current condition. The parts may add up to $3k in used condition, but finding somebody that needs everything is going to be tough.

Your best bet is to part out the car. It's a pain in the a$$, but its the only way you will recoup anywhere close to what you want out of it.

If it had a torsen rear end, I would snag it from you this weekend. The 99-00 engine is one of the most valuable Miata engines to date. I paid 1300 shipped for mine and I'm sure you can get the same for yours. Start a parts car ad on Miata.net and start ripping that thing apart.

yea, I never said I expected to get $3000, thats just what I figure It would be worth in a ll the parts. I would def. take less since im trying to sell it as a whole package.
I guess Ill give it a week or two more, then start the part out.

Anyone think $2200 is about right for the car? Thats taking near a 1/3 cut from me parting it out (estimated), just to get rid of all of it at once.

The car DOES run, and can move under its own power, just not long since there is no radiator. I have a trailer, so I could deliver if you aren't too far, or you could rent a U-haul dolly (like $40 i think) and come get it yourself. Don't hesitate to PM or call.

I'll see scott's 1000 and raise. $1050

It's definitely worth what your asking to the right person. But that person is not me, nor do i have that much to spare right now. Good luck man, and good luck with the other mazda.

someone should really pick this up for $1800... if nothing else, come pick it up and part it out!

I just cant deal with taking the car apart right now. I have car parts EVERYWHERE (Between my Subaru, the RX-7 + all the last rx-7's stuff)

Just the wheels ($200) and the motor/trans ($1200) get you most of your money back if you did decide to part it out. (averages on Miata.net)

Anyone interested at this price? I mean, for $1800 + a few grand, you have a LOCOST. (and a winter Project)

Brock,

I told you I wasn't going to be able to come down until after the holidays. I've had a tough time coordinating a 5 hour drive each way with my job. I'm still 100% buying the car.

Also, if you're worried, you could PM me here or on CCVT.
