Forum Overhaul

Post by DSPDA3 »

This weekend I plan on switching hosting providers, which will result in some downtime (hopefully short) while the DNS is being changed to the new servers. This new switch will provide substantial more diskspace and bandwidth, with a decrease in hosting costs.

I'll try to do it on Sunday night (9PM or later) after the event, to prevent anyone from missing any important info regarding the event.

At a later date, I also plan on updating the forum software to phpBB 3.0. I will let you know when that is to take place.

Let me know if you have any concerns/questions.

Cool, Ill have to get with you sometime Ryan. I am also going to be starting a Honda and Mitsu resource forum off my website using phpBB.

BTW who is your host provider if you dont mind me asking? I got a screaming deal with GoDaddy.

Well the switch won't happen tonight. My account with the new webhost is not yet active, so I cannot transfer files, etc. I will keep everyone updated as I know more.

I currently use dreamhost for all my hosting, only costs around $10.00 a month and I've got more than enough bandwidth and storage for my needs.

I didn't like Godaddy because they have some weird wonky setup and I had all kinds of issues with my database connections depending on which server they located everything on.

My most recent name registration DNS changes have gone thru in roughly an hour, and a little as 10 minutes, nothing like how long it used to take for DNS refresshes a few years ago.

Well I'm going to take the forum down for a while, while I complete the transfer. I'll try to keep it as short as possible.

The forum is back up obviously, but I wasn't able to complete the transfer to the new host. I will try again at a later time. I apologize for the downtime.

Ryan,

Did some messages/threads get lost last night? There were two threads about the Ford Fiesta.

They shouldn't have. The forum has been up since the 30th. I haven't altered the database or anything along those lines that would inadvertently deleted the treads.

I plan on taking the forum down for a period of time tonight at approx. 5PM EST to switch webhosts, servers, etc. Please be patient during the downtime. I'll try my best to make it as quick as possible.

The forum switch is now complete. It now resides on the new server. If you come across something that seems to be missing or out of place, let me know, and I'll take a look. I appreciate everyone's patience.
