Launa Mae Mumpower Combs, 86, died Friday, November 21, 2008, at August Medical Center.
She was born on July 19, 1922, in Bristol, Virginia, a daughter of Clint and Susie Mumpower.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold Combs; her sisters, Reva Mumpower and Claudine Grayson; and her brother, Ralph Mumpower.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Jane Combs of Fishersville; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Bowles and her husband, Tommy Bowles, of Fishers- ville; and grandson, Jason Combs of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Prior to moving to Augusta County in 2008, Mrs. Combs was a lifelong resident of Bristol, Virginia. She lived in the family home at Sherwood Road for more than 50 years. At the time of her retirement, she ended an 18 year career as an emergency room receptionist at Bristol Memorial Hospital. In her post-retirement years, Mrs. Combs enjoyed her extensive doll collection.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Virginia and from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, Tennessee, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m., conducted by the Reverend Ross Dampier. A private family burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tennessee.
Those desiring may share their memories online at www.mcdowfuneralhomeinc.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minister's Discretionary Fund of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2001 N. Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.

Thanks to everyone for their phone calls and food, prayers and condolences. Thanks also to those of you who stepped up and filled in for us at the many events we missed this year. We are looking forward to seeing all of you next season.
