You have been banned message

Post by glenthompson »

Sorry of you received one of these messages. I get a number of registrations requests from foreign spammers and have been banning the IP address ranges where they originate. Yesterday I tried to consolidate some of those in order to manage it easier and apparently got a little too aggressive, targeting some of our valid users.

I've reset the list so everyone should be good to go.

If anyone that got banned messages could let me know their IP address, it would help in the future. You can get it with the following link: http://www.displayip.net/

A little research found the problem - some US IP addresses were missing from the database I used.

Decided to take a different approach and add an additional profile question that should help prevent spammers from registering. They've never been able to post since we require a moderator to approve new registrations but the dozens of e-mail notices each day can get old.
