Car: 2006 Galaxy Gray Mazda RX-8

Chike_NE_Div.jpg (58.64 KiB) Viewed 38964 times
Mileage: 83K (as of 5/23/11)

Model: Base, non-sunroof, 6spd manual w/ the optional Sport Package - this includes stability control, HID lights and fog lights. The car also has the optional rear wing and 6 disc cd changer.

Price: $10,000.00

Reason for Sale: Between going back to school, a busy work schedule and picking up the game of tennis again in 2011, I'm just not driving this car as much as I used to. It was retired as a daily driver about 1 year ago (currently I put maybe 5-6K miles on the car a year).

Description: I'm the second owner of this RX-8 and bought it in November of 2007 from Carmax with 13K miles on the odometer. Mechanically the car is sound and the engine has never been flooded. Redline fluids in the transmission and rear diff. Per Mazda's recommendation, I've only use regular (non-synthetic oil) in this engine in the recommended 5W-20 viscosity (Castrol) and the oil is changed religiously every 4K miles. New Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires were put on the car 10K miles ago (70+% tread left). Car has a current VA inspection valid through 3/12. I've only used Premium gas in this car and when it was my daily driver, I averaged between 20-21mpg in mixed driving.

Vehicle History: Clean title. No major accidents. Only blemish was in 2010 when a pick-up truck scraped the passenger-side rear bumper when backing into a parking space at my office (my car was parked at the time). His insurance company (State Farm) covered the repairs at the body shop of my choice (Masters Auto Body). Repairs were done professionally and per the Body Shop's report the damage was only superficial.

Upgrades: This car is currently built to compete in the SCCA's STX class
  • Bilstein PSS9 coilovers (with custom 7K front Swift Springs)
  • Hotchkis 27mm MX-5 front swaybar (3 way adjustable)
  • Eibach 16mm MX-5 rear swaybar (2 way adjustable)
  • Racing Beat Intake
  • Black Halo Racing ignition system
  • Hypertech Max Energy Sport Tuner
  • Racing Beat mid-pipe w/ Davesport 100cpi high flow cat
  • Corksport catback
  • CG Lock
Many of these parts were purchased from Stranoparts and the owner has given me great advice/direction with regards to making my set-up work. These efforts were rewarded in 2010 when I won the 2010 NE Divisional and Gary Krichbaum (from the BRR) finished right behind me in 3rd. The car also finished 2nd in the 2010 DC region STX season championship (lost by 3 points) and has won several season championships with the BRR in B-stock and now STX.

The car was my daily driver for ~3yrs and has the usual door dings and light scratches. The only major imperfection on the exterior is a dent in the lower rocker panel by the passenger-side door when it slipped off a jack. So I'd give the exterior a 7 out of 10. The interior is near perfect with no blemishes (9 out of 10).

Kelly Blue Book pricing for private party sale is $11,500 (good) and $10,200 (fair). Due to the dent in the lower passenger-side rocker panel and the rear bumper scraping incident, I moved my price point towards the fair condition. However, at this price you get all upgrades listed in my ad.

NOTE: This price includes the 17x9 enkei RPF1 wheels and Hankook RS-3 tires.

Thanks for looking.

I vote you keep such an awesome car, but good luck with the sale. Anyone who's interested, Chike puts a lot of development and work into his cars and the next owner will be an extremely lucky person.

You know I want it chike! Unfortunately it'll be about 3.5 years before I'm able to buy anything fun again.

Btw, for those wondering what my car sounds and looks like in action, here's a YouTube video that Gary's girlfriend (Jennifer) took late last season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1ntvDfHdpA

The car is very easy to drive at the limit. I've had several solid drivers like Gary K. and Eric Sienkiewicz jump into the car and run fast times right out of the box. Everything was carefully chosen in my set-up from the alignment, F&R swaybar rates, spring rates, etc.

P.S. I'm just posting this thread on here for now as I would ideally like to see someone from my region with this car. Over the next 1-2 months, it will go up on a few more sites, and by late July/early August I'll be looking to move it.

If I wasn't on the verge of taking another hiatus from autocrossing, I'd be really interested in this car myself. I think whoever picks this up will get a good car.

Good luck Chike, and if I do hear of anybody that might be interested I'll point them your way.

Thanks Gary. This car will be a blast for whoever gets it next.

New job with more pay. I'll be able to get the SUV I'd like for my kids & tennis gear w/o having to sell the RX-8.

UPDATE

Car is back up for sale.

$10,000.00 takes everything including the lightweight 17x9 Enkei RPF1 wheels. My 19 year-old needs a new car and this one isn't driven enough to justify keeping it around.

Current mileage as of 1/10/2012 is 88,245.

Thanks Justin.

Things are looking very +ve. The RX-8 should be going to the new owner in another 7-10 days. He's a Pro Solo National champ like you, so it'll be interesting to see just how good the car will be when fully built for STX and with his hands behind the wheel.

Thanks Chike ! :) He was buying mine until he became convinced mine ate tires and the tire bill would be more than he could afford . No idea where he got that info since we are now getting nearly 90 runs out of the fronts and 250-300 runs out of the rears .

Glad yours sold , I hope mine does soon or we may be driving nothing but street tires this year too.

Tony,

Are you sure we're talking about the same person??? The person I'm thinking of was looking at RX-8's for STX. He was looking at one on the west coast (being sold by Joe Goeke), and then when mine became available he approached me and made an offer which I couldn't refuse.

Nice job on the sale Chike! Hope it all works out, I'll kinda miss seeing that Rx-8 though! But yeah, I had no idea Justin was a national champ! I remember seeing him drive at VT this past season and thinking 'woah, that's pretty fast'! It's pretty cool the talent this region has, there's another driver I gotta ride with sometime this season... :D

Anthony, sounds like your issue is with the Buyer. Looks like we both had cars for sale and the buyer made a decision.

Anyways, good luck with the sale of your car. I'm not counting my car as sold until I have the money in my account. I've definitley had buyers back out of deals/agreements before.

Nah , I'm cool with him . He made a decision based on some misinformation . I wished he had consulted a little more about the issues that bothered him but oh well . If it sells I build a CSP car if not I'll daily drive the miiata and race the neon again .
