For the road racers on this forum, I have a question:

At what point during a passing maneuver into a corner does it become the passed driver's responsibility (whole or partial) to allow the pass to be safely executed? I've constantly heard that it is the passing driver's responsibility to safely execute the pass, but at some point the passer is relying on the passee to leave the typical racing line so they have room as well.

Hmm, doesn't sound good.

General rule of thumb is if you have position on me, I need to give you racing room. Position is nominally defined as being "door to door", or at least far enough alongside that I can see you in my peripheral vision.

If you attempt a pass and your front tire hits my rear tire or fender, you've fouled me. Technically I can "close the door" on you and be in the right, but in practice I would yield the corner IF I know you're there (unless it's late in the race and we're fighting for a good result).

'Cause I buy enough fenders as it is....
