I just ordered a Pro rib protector from K1Racegear.com. I have separated ribs from my dual with Mark Eisenbies... not going to happen again.. too painful. Sure was fun.... looks like there is not much interest in having another Kart Challenge this year. Must have a minimum of 20 PAID/committed drivers... they can be anyone who is interested in participating.DSPDA3 wrote:I'm down. Need to start a weight loss program. What's the upper limit for the lightweight class? Could be an excuse to lose some of my 175lb.
Perhaps some sort of ribcage padding is in order?

Only other date would be September 1, 2007... Aug 18 is AMA races at VIR and you have to buy an AMA ticket to get to the Kart Track. The way response has been it looks like a no go anyway... I think I will go ahead and cancel with the Kart Track.DSPDA3 wrote:Lynn -
I forgot my checkbook at Verona. Hopefully I'll get it to you soon.
I noticed that the 2007 NCAC is also planned for that weekend, in Danville. This may put a crimp on getting enough people to commit to karting. I still plan on the karting, if it's still on.

We can wait a while longer to see if there is any interest.. we should move the date if the NCAC is at the same time... any ideas on a date? Aug 18 is out.. Aug 11 is Oak Tree Nationals.DSPDA3 wrote:How late can you wait before you cancel with no penalty?
Check http://myspace.com/virkarttrack for the current booking schedule at the Kart track. looks like September 1, or 15 could be an open date.

I've been interested...but the neon needs a new head and a new transmission...so I can't promise anything until I see how cashflow works out through the summer.....
The CCR 24 hour event is usually the first weekend in September, and that's something I never miss. As Ryan said, the 15th is getting close to Nationals. But, you can never make everyone happy...

I might know about 3 or so people that might be interested. But I didn't get quite enough info from VIR's Plantation myspace page.
Are these actual shifter karts or shifter kart chassis minus the shifting?
What are the helmet requirements and are there loaner helmets and neck braces?
How long will each race be?

Try this link to see an old picture of the carts... they are not shifter carts.. average speed is about 47mph for the 5/8 mile track.

What is the total cost for the event? Typically what are the activities at the kart challenge?

$50.00 per Driver... total cost.. arrive and drive.Action wrote:What is the total cost for the event? Typically what are the activities at the kart challenge?
Divide into two groups at the 1:30pm Drivers meeting.. "Lite" and "Heavy".
Each Group gets a 12 minute practice warm up.
Qualifying by each group for 12 minutes.. fastest single lap is your time.
Race by groups .. 12-15 lap races... continue until 2 hours are used.
